EVALUATION QUESTION 3

We recorded ourselves discussing question 3, here is the YouTube video and the written version of what we said.

This is Chloe and Bethany and our short film was called Saviour.

We showcased our film to our class and handed out questionnaires in order to get feedback on what the audience liked, and what could be improved.

From our feedback, we learnt that the biggest positive was how the voiceover conveyed the genre of the film well and that it made the narrative a lot easier to understand.

This was important to us because the emotion of the narrative was what we wanted to be understood by the audience effectively as the main focus of Saviour was for the audience to empathise with the character.

Another thing that we learnt was that our camera shots worked well with the audience, especially the close ups. This is because it showed the characters emotion effectively.

Along with this, the desaturation used was liked by the audience as it showed the mood and genre of the film.

However, the only negative feedback we got was the confusion of the narrative at the end as the audience didn’t know whether the character was alive or dead. This was our intention to have an open ending because that was our twist.

We agreed with these comments as the audience said the most significant points of our short film, and we were aware that the narrative may have some confusion but overall it was understood.

If we could do the project again, we would probably add more scenes to clarify the film and maybe make the ending clearer. Along with this, we could have varied our post production more with the use of more transitions rather than just fade in and fade out.

We believe we targeted our audience correctly as it was targeted at both males and females of ages 16+ and this is what we showed our film too.

Overall, the feedback we got was expected and we are happy with what the audience said.

EVALUATION QUESTION 2

Originally, we were going to do a Prezi for this evaluation question. However, it would not save so therefore we had to use Glogster. This turned out better because we haven't used Glogster in our A2 coursework so therefore adds to the programmes we can use.

MOVIE POSTER FINAL

I am very happy with the outcome of my movie poster. I used as many conventions as possible without making it look crowded and unprofessional. It is shown below. I made the improvements of adding the tagline 'even the fallen can be saved' and also a CRB production logo.

MOVIE POSTER PROGRESS

For one of my ancillary tasks, I chose to create a movie poster. I did this at home so I would have more time in lessons to complete the evaluation. I wanted to keep it very simplistic and artistic along with my other coursework so therefore I stuck to a colour scheme of greyscale using only blacks, greys and whites. I print screened my progress and I will discuss what I did and why.

The first thing I did was turn the background black as I knew this is what I wanted and it allowed me to see all of the white text I was using. Along with this, I added my title and added a gradient overlay meaning the black at the bottom would blend into the background. Another thing I did on my first day of creating this was to write the billing block for the bottom of the poster. The font I used was Gloucster MT Extra Condensed. This was a very complex thing to do as I had to make the text different sizes and also make it appear narrow and tall in order to look professional.

The next thing I did was add a rating, add reviews and also add a caption saying 'Bethany D'Inverno and Chloe Ward present'. I saved an image of a rating and erased the background and made it a psd. file and then added it to the poster. For my stars, I took an image and erased the background and added a white colour overlay to go with my colour scheme. The text I used for both the caption at the top and my review titles was Gills Sans MT.

All that was left for me to do then was add the image. I used the same image for my double page spread because I wanted to show continuity among my coursework and make sure both things looked relevant to eachother. Along with this, it was important for me to keep it simple and not make it appear confusing. I edited the image on a seperate file by cutting around the original and then adding a lot of feather to make it appear faded.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD FINAL

My final double page spread is shown below and I am very pleased with it. In an earlier post entitled 'progress', I wrote how I did it and why.
